Aeris was a youth-recruit in the science and Discovery division of the far moon 's one and only exploration Base. Only fifty multitude lived at the pedestal. 421 days from the place planet, the base was considered to be extremely remote. After the first gear tangency occured with the alien fusion, her metal money began to spread throughout their solar system with the applied science and guidance of their new allies. Some of the aliens were at the base, guiding her kind in their studies. The skinny, green ones resembled Aeris'coinage. Bipedal with two eyes, mouth and pry. But they were taller, near, and had expectant, dark eyes. Their peel was super C, whereas Aeris'was a wan blue. Her coinage'skin would usually darken with age. But Aeris was still very pale.

The former stranger race were big, gooey, tentacled beings with no discernable case. They would communicate telepathically, but still used a strange `` language '' or `` way of intellection '' that was difficult for Aeris'kind to understand. The honey oil would usually transform and arbitrate communication. Aeris was still uncomfortable around them. They would get into her mind to read her virtually personal thoughts and desires. There was no way to stop it or to protest. At the moon-base, her mind was always being penetrated, even during sleep.

An announcement was made that youth-recruits from S & D could recieve doubling pay, a very generous measure of currency, if they were to offer for physical studies in the Foreign Biology report labs. Aeris accepted, not knowing what it would entail. One of the youngest at the post, she began to suspect that she was coveted as a flower candidate for this programme. She did n't know why but was easily goaded by the women scientists. After she submitted to a rather invasive physical examination, these scientists and doctors went out of their way to pull her into the program. Aeris agreed and was immediately inserted into a world that she had no experience of. Her first day :
